Hyperbaric Safety Director Course (HSD)

This 3 day program provides necessary tools and resources to fulfill the responsibilities of the hyperbaric safety director as defined by NFPA 99. The curriculum includes classroom instruction and practical exercises.

14.3.1.3.1 Personnel having responsibility for the hyperbaric facility, and those responsible for licensing, accrediting, or approving institutions or other facilities in which hyperbaric installations are employed, shall establish and enforce programs to fulfill the provisions of this chapter.

Objective

The purpose of this education activity is to enhance your knowledge in the area of hyperbaric safety by addressing safety issues, development of a safety program, and conducting safe hyperbaric chamber operations in accordance with current industry and regulatory standards. Completion of this course does not constitute certification or credentialing.

This course is appropriate for hyperbaric technologists, respiratory therapists, nurses, physicians, and department managers.

Participants are responsible for their own travel, food, and lodging. A block of rooms is reserved at the Drury Plaza Hotel San Antonio Riverwalk at a special rate of $115 (plus 16.75% hotel tax) per night for a single room ($10.00 per each additional person). Travel Schedule

Lectures will begin on 8:00 a.m. you may check in starting at 7:30 a.m. The course ends at 5:00 p.m. You should select a flight that departs after 7:00 p.m.

Physicians

Accreditation Statement: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) and International ATMO, Inc. The UHMS is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Designation Statement: The UHMS designates this live activity for a maximum of 24 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses

The activity has been submitted to the Texas Nurses Association for approval to award contact hours. Texas Nurses Association – Approver is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Certified Hyperbaric Technologist

This program has been reviewed and is acceptable for 24 Category A credit hours by the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology.

When should I travel?

  • Arrival – Lectures begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday morning so participants should plan to arrive in San Antonio on Sunday
  • Departure – The course ends at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.  If you plan to leave San Antonio on Friday, you should select a flight that departs after 7:00 p.m.

Meals

  • Participants staying at the Drury Plaza should take advantage of the free continental breakfast offered by the hotel
  • Beverages will be provided throughout the day
  • Participants are responsible for all meals

Dress Code

Comfortable clothes are appropriate.  You will be spending many hours in the classroom each day.  Classroom tends to be cold so bring a sweater or long sleeve shirt to class.

Upon Course Completion

Upon completion of the course participants will a letter of completion from International ATMO, Inc.  The Undersea and Hyperbaric medical Society will provide CME certificates to physicians.  Attendees who leave prior to the completion of the course are not eligible to receive a course completion certificate.

Parking

Most hotels in the downtown area have fees for parking.  Parking garages in the downtown area range in price beginning at $9 and up per day.  Hotel parking is sometimes more expensive.  If you are driving from your hotel to the Drury Plaza Hotel daily, you may park in the Drury’s valet parking garage for $10 per day.  Parking fees are the responsibility of the student.
